My wife and I stopped by a comic book shop last night out of curiosity, since we had run into a guy on the subway who was reading a graphic novel and I had read Maus while in college. "Children of the Sea" caught my attention with its beautiful cover and intriguing title. Very well done. Perhaps I'm becoming a graphic novel fan, or at least a fan of Igarashi's work.
The sea is wonderful

I love these stories, there wonderful! I love how these stories are mysteries.
But I do wonder what happened to Sora.
I'll buy it all!

I love this manga so much, not only because of the intriguing story, but also for Igarashi's unique art, that I bought the original Japanese version of Vol. 2. I can't wait to buy Viz's English translated Vol.2 and Vol.3!
Absolutely Beautiful
Corrupt_Id
The whole atmosphere of this title is so fantastical and beautiful. The characters are very interesting and the art really pulls you into it's world.
I can't wait to buy volume 2!
Good series...

Definitely would like to read more of this. THis is one of the series I can see that would appeal to both adults and teens, not sure what would happen in the end, but would like to see.
The sea...
Emerald_Mara85
The fact that this manga inspired me to listen to whales is saying something,
I've seen many manga that have sea scenes both realistic and unrealistic but none have ever capture the feelings that its as if I'm actually swimming in the sea!
However to those who are used to fast paced manga would likely turn down this title as this manga is more about emotions and nature.
Thanks!

i love the story line, but what really stood out about this manga was the drawings. The simplistic, almost rustic style in technique, but it is so detailed and has so much personality it bursts off the page!
i also love how this website informs the readers when the next chapter will be out on the website. so thanks!
Great Manga

I love this book. It's such a great story. The illustrations are superb. The story is captivating. I cannot wait until volume 2 is released. I highly recommend this to anyone who's lived close to the ocean or who lives now by the ocean.
Good Story, Beautiful Art
REM beat down
This is probably one of my favorites on the site. The story is original and solid (something you don't see a lot of in the manga industry). One of the best parts is the incredible scenery.
Love it

I've been praising this story quite a lot here on sigikki and elsewhere, but it's a great series with a wonderful atmosphere and setting that just draws you right in.
I also think it's a great manga for those who don't normally read manga, whether they're readers of North American / European comics, or completely out of that loop. It has the potential to gain a following outside of the normal circles.
Guide to the Sea
The Mad Manga Massacre
Viz Media, you just had to go and- gring over one of the most enjoyable and surreal series I have read in a long time! The characters are quirky and fun; my personal favorite is the owner of the aquarium. The story also fails to fall into the cliches of the Seinen genre (over-the-top action scenes and excessive panty-shots) which is also a plus!! The various type of marine life shown adds to the experience! Come and sit, as you are whisked off to the sea....
Swept out to Sea
Soul
I ran out and bought Volume 1 and loved it.
I totally engrossed in the majestic elements of the work and the interaction between Umi and Ruka feels very natural, added the art work is beautiful.
Call me hooked.
Eco-wonderful

This title really grabs you with the cover and title, but it's the eerie mystery involving these children that keeps pulling you back to read. So many questions and not enough answers yets, but after finishing the first book I want more and I can't wait as each new chapter is posted. Loving the water I really wish I could commune with the oceans like this special pair of boys seem to do. Some of the scenes are so relaxing you can almost feel the water around you.
A lovely myth of the sea
Shelly
This story reminded me of the way the sea felt to me as a child, another world both magical and real. It captures that same blend of mysticism and science that makes you think, feel and question. The art is wonderful, capturing not only the majesty, beauty and power of the sea and its inhabitants, but also the liveliness and point of view of the children who are the story's center. This isn't a childish tale though – rather one that reminds us how to see through child-like eyes.

I wonder if this idea helped Igarashi-sensei come up with the idea. Too cool!
